We are looking for an Facilities Maintenance Assistant to join our team to help support us deliver a varied programme of theatre, dance, music, spoken word, comedy, film and creative learning events.

We are a collaborative Arts organisation now in its 60th year with a strong and inspiring legacy. Through the performing and creative arts, our mission is to provide education, a place to showcase work, and raise awareness of the cultural sector.

We are now looking for someone to help us manage the day-to-day facilities and maintenance requirements of our building and programme of events.

Key Responsibilities


• Safety: Ensure the safety of the building and its users. Leading and contributing to the annual risk assessment audit.
• Administrative: Answer phone calls and schedule contractors when needed, file certification and reports post visit, bring to the attention of the leadership team any adverse outcomes or significant findings
• Coordination: Create and manage the schedule of inspections, oversee repairs, and coordinate preventative maintenance tasks
• Services: Being aware of the location of essential services including water isolation valves, fire points, and drainage systems, gas and power supplies. Maintaining a detailed plan showing the location of these.
• Maintenance: Perform minor repairs, such as fixing broken items, changing light bulbs, and unblocking drains. Building hardware is maintained and tests are conducted as necessary (e.g. fire alarm and emergency lighting checks, water system flushing, etc.).
• Grounds: Maintain safe access and egress of the property, regularly visually inspecting outside areas for defects and potential hazards including condition of boundaries and building exterior.
• Budget: Supporting the Executive Director to negotiate contracts and agreements with contractors and subcontractors relevant to facilities, effectively communicating company policies to all.
• Sustainability: Managing, scheduling, and monitoring the use of heating, lighting and other mains services to all areas of the site; advising senior management to ensure the most economical use of fuel and water.
• Hire of Spaces: Set up and take down room hire as required, setting out and clearing away furniture, equipment and other items when required in connection with all events.
• Deliveries: Coordinate deliveries, transferring goods and materials delivered to the building to appropriate locations around the site; assisting with assembly of goods received where necessary and reporting any defects.
• Supervision: Supervise cleaning operatives and support with cleaning where required ensuring that the premises is kept clean, tidy and attractive in order to minimise risks to the health and safety of staff, volunteers and members of the public.
• Meetings: Attend meetings with the leadership to discuss progress and issues
• Access: Be the first point of contact for access to the property out of hours. Ensuring the overall security of the building, reporting and issues to leadership.
• Policies: Comply with health and safety policies and regulations, and other relevant legislation
• Training: Undergo training relevant to the role

Terms

£24,000-£26,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week based at Aberdeen Arts Centre. There will be a need for working evenings and weekends.
