Artist Development
We’re really keen to interrogate and explore what Artist Development could look like at Aberdeen Arts Centre.
How can we support artists, creatives, theatre makers, at all stages of their careers? This page will develop and grow in the coming months to show upcoming opportunities, workshops planned to help support specific areas of being a creative in Aberdeen and links to opportunities at other organisations in Aberdeen and beyond.
Please keep an eye on our website and social media for what’s coming up and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like a chat info@aberdeenartscentre.com
Artist Development Bursaries 2024
Three Aberdeen Arts Centre artist development bursaries are now open for applications.
Closing Date EXTENDED: 10th July 2024
No Ladies, Please
In 1973, a mass of women stormed The Grill bar in Aberdeen, protesting its ‘men only’ policy. Using Aberdeen Arts Centre’s stage and reception areas, this project will explore the spaces we’re barred from, welcomed, and where we thrive, to develop a new work for the Northeast.
We're thrilled to be working with Morna Young as a Scottish Society of Playwrights 'SSP@50' Fellow.

We're keen to gather stories and hear as many local voices as we can over the course of the project. This might mean a cup of tea and a chat. It might be sending in your thoughts. It might be coming to listen to the sharing of Morna's work later in the year and giving us your feedback.
Keep an eye on our social media and newsletter for information.
Artist Development Bursaries & Meet Ups
In February 2023, Aberdeen Arts Centre made a commitment to create Artist Development Bursaries and host Artist Development Meet Up sessions — free events aimed at bringing together professional actors and creatives at any stage of their careers.
In April 2023, an open call went out for Bursaries. £500 per project along with a week's free space and mentoring, guidance, general support and feedback from our Director was offered for five different projects. Every project was at a different stage, some brand new, some ready for an audience.
We are excited to be offering three more Artist Development Bursaries in 2024. More details here.
We will continue to engage with local, North East professional creatives to help them develop their skills, create new work and build new audiences.
